The Kommander class' melee attack differs from that of other class' - upon performing the melee action, the Kommander performs an Interrogation skill which reveals the enemy's teammates on the radar prior to performing the melee kill (the Kommander can tap the melee button again to immediately kill the enemy rather than waiting for the Interrogation to finish).

Players equipped with the Neckguard armor core receive immunity to all melee attacks.

Certain armor headgear such as the Shibing, or Kitsune helmet can also be worn to extend the range of the melee attack. Wielding the Judgment pistol or wearing the Werewolf armor also gives the player unique melee animations (The Kommander class also has a unique melee animation). The melee action itself has been drastically improved since MC4, with multiple animations for stabbing enemies. In Modern Combat 5: Blackout, performing the melee attack is similar to that of Fallen Nation: it is a separate button that pops up when an enemy is close enough. This makes performing melee attacks a lot easier. Melee in Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour almost works same way melee in Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, but the shoot button changes in a melee button when an enemy is in range. If the enemy didn't notice you, you will kill the enemy putting the knife in his neck or twist his neck. You can miss the target if it is walking. The mechanics are relatively unchanged from the previous title. In Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation players will kill enemies with Combat Knife. In Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, the player will kill an enemy with a Combat Knife. In Modern Combat: Sandstorm, the player will kill an enemy with the stock of the equipped weapon.
